Finding her perfect pad together

At Always, we know that when it comes to protection, fit is everything. And you know that your daughter is likely to turn to you for advice on finding the right pad size. We've designed some online tools to make the whole process easier on both of you.

First, our Product Comparison Tool provides a convenient, at-a-glance list of product details on absorbency, size, thickness - even what colour package to look for on the shelf. Our wide selection of ultra thins, pantiliners and maxis allows every woman to find the product that's perfect for her size, shape and period.

To further refine your daughter's choice, try our Product Recommendation Tool, which will ask a few questions regarding her body size and flow. That way, you'll be able to find the right product or combination of products to meet your daughter's needs.

Here are some things to keep in mind when helping her choose the perfect pad for her.

  1. Size matters. When you help your daughter select a feminine product, body size matters. For her smaller frame, a thinner, slender pad, such as Always Ultra Normal with wings is best. As she grows, you'll notice that her needs and her choice of feminine protection will change as well.
  2. Make a list. Know what you're looking for BEFORE you get to the store. The last thing your daughter wants is to spend extra time in the feminine protection aisle. You can use our product comparison tool for product details.
  3. Her menstrual flow. Encourage her to try a variety of pads to find a combination that works for her. If it's heavy, she'll probably want to use Always Ultra long with wings, longer pads with fold-over wings for side protection. When her flow is very light, possibly during the last few days of a cycle, pantiliners can be ideal. Some girls also like to wear pantiliners between periods to absorb vaginal discharge - a perfectly normal natural moisture from the vagina. They also wear them right before their periods are due so they won't be caught by surprise. Don't forget to discuss with her how often to change her pad. It depends on her flow, but in general she should change her pads at least every three to four hours.
  4. Give her wings. For girls worried about leaks, an Always pad with wings is a great confidence builder that helps prevent "sides of panties" leaks. If she dances or is involved in sports, wings can make the pad feel like it's more securely in place. If you feel she's ready, Tampax Tampons are right for some girls too.
  5. Disposal. Be sure to warn her to never dispose of pads by flushing them in the toilet. Instead show her how to wrap the used pad in toilet tissue or roll it in the Always wrapper and place it in a waste bin or the special waste container she'll find in most public and school restrooms.
